Mothers need more sleep

Sleeping more. How do we see it? As a luxury or as a necessity? They may even see it as a waste of their valuable time. What is your opinion? Do you really think that getting more sleep will help you be a better mother?

Why is sleeping longer hours beneficial?

Recent studies have shown that getting more sleep is essential for good health. Despite our busy schedules and busy lives as mothers, the truth is that it is vitally important to make sure we get enough sleep and rest.

What restorative sleep achieves in our body is to metabolize free radicals, and therefore, prevent premature aging and even cancer.

On the other hand, when we do not sleep enough hours, the production of leukocytes and the hormone cortisol is limited in our body, thus the person is exposed to more infectious diseases and even cardiovascular diseases.

It can also happen that people who sleep more are less obese, because when sleeping the body secretes a hormone that sends a signal to the brain that the body has eaten enough. In this way it is removed and does not give rise to unnecessary binges to calm that need.

Needless to say, the state of pleasure and satisfaction produced by having a good night’s rest. Not only our health will appreciate it, but also our family and friends who are around us. Why? Well, because we will have a good sense of humor and it will come in handy to start our exhausting daily routine as moms.

Why do mothers especially need more sleep?

With the arrival of the first child at home, the mother’s sleep and hours of rest are drastically affected, causing her not to be able to sleep more hours than necessary, or if not less than that.

It goes without saying much about the great work a mother does both inside and outside the home, which logically leaves her exhausted and physically, mentally and emotionally drained.

Many times a night you will wake up to watch, nurse, or simply observe that your little one is doing well, resulting in a constant interruption in your sleep.

Aids to Sleep more and better

  1. Goodbye to tobacco . Aside from the dangers demonstrated for our children, tobacco harms the hours of rest, as many smokers experience withdrawal symptoms at night.
  2. Avoid tasks that require a lot of mental effort before sleeping as much as possible. If we carry out tasks of this type, instead of sleeping more, we will achieve the opposite effect, since it will cost us to relax and therefore fall asleep.
  3. Try to sleep in the dark, in silence and at the right temperature. It is proven that an appropriate temperature and light promote a good rest.
  4. Avoid stimulants like coffee, tea, or alcohol just before sleeping. Alcohol, contrary to what is believed, will not help us rest, as it contributes to sleeplessness at night.

As we have been able to read in this article, we have to give great importance to sleeping more, not seeing it as something that is not within our reach simply because we are mothers, but quite the opposite.

Just as we see the need to take care of ourselves and eat well, knowing the benefit it will have on our bodies, in the same way we must give the place that our well-deserved rest deserves.
